My Project

My urban students don't often get the opportunity to spend time outdoors and learn about the environment. Providing the opportunity to be outside and learn about our fragile ecosystem and the small things we can do to make it better is very important for the future of our earth. This project will allow me to meet the following goals and outcomes for my students related to Environment/sustainability: Create positive relationships with the environment, take responsibility for other living things, understand complex and diverse biological ecosystems, learn how natural systems are connected, experience the way agriculture affects the environment, and Develop a sense of place and a curiosity about nature

The "Magical Meadow" will provide a safe yet magical space for our students to relax and enjoy and learn about the natural environment.

This project will allow students to plant a garden, read and relax, help the bees and butterflies, and plan and enjoy school gatherings in an enchanting space.

The little free library will give them a place for books and learn how to be comfortable and relaxed in the outdoor environment. The solar panel and generator will allow us to sustainably bring power to the outdoor space when needed for tools and electronics. The garden beds allow students to learn about agriculture and how to successfully plant and harvest fruits and vegetables, and the solar garden lights will give the space an enchanted feel for nighttime classes and experiences.
