First grade is an exciting year for children that is filled with lots of learning and growth. My classroom is a fun, vibrant place where children make huge gains both academically and socially throughout the year.

Teaching is such an exciting adventure because no two days are ever the same. The 6- and 7-year-old boys and girls I teach have very diverse cultural, economic, academic, language, and emotional needs. My school is a fantastic place where the students meet every day to learn with and from one another! My students work hard every day at school to become better readers, writers, thinkers, and learners...providing the classroom resources to help them strengthen their skills provides endless benefits!
My Project
Children naturally gravitate towards hand-on, project based learning. Creating a maker space in our classroom will allow children to design, build and create the structures that they see in real-life. By providing a variety of building materials, students will be able to plan, build, and test the structures of their imaginations as well! Each building tool was specifically chosen to foster imagination, team work, and problem solving skills. Who will be the designers and engineers that keep industry innovative? These materials appeal to girls and boys and learners of all abilities and ages. Participating in hands-on, thoughtful, and engaging activities like these will capture the interest of students in the early years and encourage them to pursue advanced studies of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Completing these projects will give students a chance to use problem-solving, apply their real-life knowledge, cooperate with each other in groups, and enjoy science and math.
