This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with 38 English language learners in first and second grade. They are so loving and eager to learn. I previously had a magnetic chalkboard, which I used for displaying the supports my students needed to be successful. Last summer, when our school building was renovated to fix the AC unit, the magnetic chalkboard in my room was removed to create the space needed for the new AC unit. Currently, I just have a wall!

A magnetic whiteboard will elevate the way I teach my students and improve their English language acquisition.

I will use the whiteboard to display visuals for story comprehension. The students will use magnetic letters on it for letter identification, stretching out words, and other phonics activities. The whiteboard will also provide a space where I can model and guide students to practice letter formation and provide sentence structures for them to develop their writing. I will also model different strategies for solving math problems. In addition, having a whiteboard will give the students an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and move from their seats.

I believe that having a magnetic whiteboard will raise my students enthusiasm for learning and showing what they know.
