This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school population has changed so much in the past few years. We serve free or reduced-price lunch to over 70% of our population. We have seen an increase of incoming families that have immigrated with very few resources. Our school community relies more than ever on schools to be able to provide resources and materials to all students despite all the budget cuts we have faced.

My Project

When COVID hit back in March of 2020 all soft surface materials were rolled up and put into storage for over 18 months. When we returned this fall out rug that we use for many purposes such as morning meeting and story time was in condition for my young kids to sit on.

Our rug is moldy and beyond repairable, our floors cold and uncomfortable for my kids to sit and be comfy during many of the activities we do on the floor.

My students need a clean comfy rug to come together as a class and enjoy circle discussions and story time. Having a rug will give my students a place to work as a class and in groups. Kids love being able to have options and different places in the class that they can go to and work!
