Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
After four years with more than 100 students and more than several "accidents," we need a new rug to sit on, and cleaning the old rug is no longer an option.
We have an inclusion classroom in an urban setting.
Most of our students are living in poverty, but they are typical kindergartners as far as their eagerness to learn and grow in the classroom. Listening to and exploring books is always an important and exciting part of our daily learning, whether it be peer reading, whole group reading or individualized reading, and the rug provides a comfortable and clean space for this to occur.
My Project
My students need a classroom carpet for a clean and comfortable space to sit and learn, and 26 copies of "Weekly Readers" to nurture their literacy and life-long learning. The rug, a central part of our classroom as well as our learning, is home to partner reading, whole group activities and math lessons on the perimeter. These interactions make the rug an integral part of kindergartners' daily learning experience. What is a kindergarten classroom without a classroom rug?
After numerous cleanings, and less and less money in the system, we need a new rug.
Please contribute to our project as our children deserve a healthy environment to learn in.
