My Students
"Somos bilingues - We are bilingual!" This is the mantra in our classroom. It evokes pride, determination to learn, and drive to find connections within language, our communities, and each other.
The dual language immersion students in my classroom are enthusiastic inquirers.
Every day brings more questions and leads to new paths of learning and discovery. These 3rd graders can't get enough when it comes to reading, science, math, and learning about the world. They approach each day with joy, thoughtfulness, and perseverance.
My Project
The students will utilize the wonderfully formatted magazines from Scholastic in a multitude of ways. We will complete reading comprehension lessons, utilize the quizzes, build curiosity and self-directed learning paths through the content, develop their English and Spanish reading skills, and have leveled reading content in both languages of the class to take home with them weekly and share with their families!
The magazines will provide a consistent view of the world beyond our classroom.
They will provide students the context necessary to connect the learning we are doing together during our units of inquiry with the world at large. As a school we desire to develop students who are mindful of how to make their communities and our world a better place now and in the future. The Spanish and English magazines will begin to plant the seed of caring about the world that is beyond our front door.
