Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Thanks to the generosity of the Donors Choose community, my students and I were blessed with a gorgeous Orff xylophone. The magic of the enthusiasm my students feel for it is indescribable and they are hungry for more. We need a metallophone so we can play richer and more exciting music.
My students attend a high poverty public school for Kindergarten through 8th grade students located in an urban community in New Jersey.
All of the instruments that they have access to have been donated and the students treat these instruments with respect and love. I know that they get a sense of pride and accomplishment from playing musical instruments and I want that love of music to continue to be nurtured.
My Project
My students are proud of their accomplishments in music class and love to have performances for the community. When I see them play instruments, I see them at their most focused and most successful. If my students receive this beautiful metallophone and set of mallets, they will be able to play it alongside the xylophone that they have grown to love so much. They will accompany our recorder and guitar ensembles and enjoy the thrill of being in the percussion section.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to flourish as musicians.
It will give my students a wider skill set and enrich the sound of their ensemble playing. Above all, it will give them another opportunity to feel proud and successful.
