This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are diverse learners who desperately want to improve their learning, grades and test scores! I am new to 5th grade after teaching 2nd grade for the past 11 years and have no Reading/ELA or Social Studies books to meet the needs of my students and the curriculum. These novels are vital!

Our school is 87.6% low income and 77% of Hispanic culture.

They are ready and eager to learn and to succeed in 5th grade! I desperately want to help them achieve their academic goals for the year and help them prepare for meeting the rigors and challenges this year, especially with a new standardized test looming - the PARCC. I need materials that will continue to motivate and challenge them to meet their goals, as well as those dictated by the district and state. Please help us, if you can.

My Project

These novels provide the text we need to learn vital skills in Reading and Writing, such as character development, culture, setting, theme, identifying vital parts of text, and making various connections. My students will learn how to become deeper, reflective readers and writers which will improve their comprehension and better thinkers with text.

This project would enhance my classroom because students will have books that we will read closely and complete several learning activities that will help them grow significantly as readers, writers and thinkers.

Without books, I cannot move my students in the way they need and deserve.
