My students need a base computer for the classroom that will a) connect to the Smart Board for presenting work b) will read their I-pads when collaborating on work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Only 26 letters, but a million thoughts..." -Michelle Smith
My school bought I-pads for the students, but none for the teachers. My current laptop is broken and one that works seamlessly with their I-pads will allow me to sync with their I-pads and help them with their essay writing and projects.
Newtown High School has its name commemorating what was once Newtown, Long Island; but today is known as Elmhurst; Queens.
A once rich farmland, Elmhurst now houses one of the largest and most diverse populations in the world. This neighborhood high school has a large population of Latino and Asian students, but has a notable Caribbean and Eastern European population as well. Yet in spite of its diversity, Newtown students are the once forgotten. In the past, many of the newer charter schools, the prestigious public schools, and the private schools in the area were receiving the praise and funding. Yet, over the past three years, Newtown has been labeled a "B" school under N.Y.S.'s former scoring system to a "Proficient/Highly Effective" school under the current N.Y.S. scoring system. With these positive evaluations, the students at Newtown have proven that they should not be ignored. In September, a graduating senior will be attending Harvard while others attend N.Y.U.
My Project
My students need a base computer for the classroom that will a) connect to the Smart Board for presenting work b) will read their I-pads when collaborating on work. A new Mac Book will help me create lesson plans. It will also help me present these lessons to my classes. These are the basic, everyday functions the computer will serve; but, when I walk away from the Mac and let the students use it, it will be so much more. It will be the center of the Smart Board station, students will complete and present their work on the computer. In an English as a Second Language classroom, this will range from completing an interactive vocabulary activity, to taking those same words and incorporating those words in an essay/project. One project students will work on will be a Pinterest page for Romeo and Juliet's wedding as if the story was written today. They begin by adding what they want and when they are reminded that it is a secret wedding, they begin editing their pins to only items needed. One of the requirements being they must caption/label each photo and in doing so, learn more English.
A new Mac will help my students because I will be able to edit any work they complete on their iPads.
When I notice a negative trend happening in their work, I will then pull an example from a student's iPad in real time, send/display the mistake to the class through the computer, and teach them how to correct/avoid it. This futuristic scenario will make interest. The more interest a student has, the more likely he/she will complete work and retain the knowledge learned.
