This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a high-risk, low social economic area of California.
Many come from single parent households, with a high percentage living below the poverty line.
They live with daily violence in a community that visually seems depressing. My students want to learn and thrive but have very limited resources outside of the school. Our teachers and school staff work very hard at enriching the lives of the students at our school. We want the very best for EVERY student. However with limited financial resources our students don't always have what's needed to have adequate access to the essentials of learning.
My Project
My amazing scholars worked hard last semester completing the home assignments and participating in class zoom instruction from March until June that was assigned due to the COVID 19 school closure. This summer I had the opportunity to attend amazing distance learning training acquiring many new tools and skills that have made me a Future Ready educator. After attending these various professional developments I now realize that my technology is sub-par. I am currently using a 7-year-old Macbook with limited capabilities. I know My students would benefit greatly from our class having a Macbook with sound and video capabilities to pre-record video messages, participate in zoom learning, and to demonstrate phonics and math lessons for them. Digital storytelling apps and the book creator app are a couple I know will be incorporated in daily learning rotations
This project will provide a Macbook so that I can use phenomenal tools to assist my students with their distance learning experience.
When we get the all-clear to return to school the pad will serve dual purposes.
I know school will have a blended learning schedule, both online and face to face learning. I will continue to use it for virtual lessons and In-class it will be used for digital storytelling, students will record, edit, and publish live videos. I will use it for whole group instruction to display educational videos via document reader and use various downloadable instructional tools that will benefit student instruction.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
