Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Children in special education often face distinct challenges when it comes to forming friendships and developing social skills. These difficulties can arise from factors such as communication barriers, social anxiety, or cognitive delays. Making friends and navigating social interactions are crucial for a child’s emotional and social growth, yet for some children in special education, these processes can feel like an overwhelming obstacle. The resources we are requesting will enable us to launch a lunchtime board game club tailored to ESS students, while remaining open to all. The club’s primary goal is to foster an inclusive environment where students can engage in a variety of cooperative, educational board games, helping them develop vital social skills. The requested snacks will serve to create a more relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where students can socialize and get to know one another through game play.

The lunchtime board game club will provide ESS students a valuable opportunity to practice social interaction in a low-pressure environment with non-ESS peers.

Every student deserves the opportunity to cultivate meaningful friendships and a board game club will have a positive impact on students’ ability to navigate social situations both inside and outside of the classroom.
