This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I’m excited to bring the beauty of Lunar New Year to my first graders through crafts, stories, and a festive classroom setup! With your support, we’ll celebrate this meaningful holiday by creating traditional red lanterns, making decorative drums, and reading a special book that introduces the traditions and symbols of Lunar New Year.

Each student will craft their own red lantern and decorate a drum with stickers to make it unique.

We’ll use red and gold colors to bring in the luck and joy associated with Lunar New Year, and our finished creations will help make the holiday come alive. I’m also planning to set up a beautiful Lunar New Year backdrop outside our classroom window to welcome everyone and share in the celebration.

This project will give my students a hands-on way to connect with Lunar New Year and appreciate a holiday celebrated by many around the world. Creating lanterns and drums will help them develop fine motor skills, express their creativity, and build pride in their work. Through storytelling and craft, they’ll learn about the holiday’s customs in a way that’s fun and memorable.
