Lucy's Literacy Lessons For Second Graders

My students need 10 books by Lucy Caukins and 13 poetry books to ignite their interest in literacy.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Tiktin-Sharick's classroom raised $564

This project is fully funded

I am an Elementary School teacher for 1st and 2nd grade students. I am seeking books to establish the foundations of literacy for my emergent readers.

Teaching early childhood students requires daily teacher developed lessons tailored to the many learning styles of the students in the class. As an educator, I am always refining my lessons to better reach my students. Working from textbooks is not an option.

While seeking strategies to improve student comprehension for Literacy skills, I have become familiar with the work of Lucy Caulkins, a prominent educator in the field. Having the books by an expert that outline strategies to master the foundations of literacy will support my students in understanding and retaining crucial skills. Poetry is a particularly difficult genre to convey to younger students. The list that I have compiled takes my students past Dr. Seuss and into the real world of verse.

Thank you for providing the books needed to advance my students’ use of poetry and prose.
