Students love to do hands on activities, but it is extremely hard to do those when you do not have enough equipment. Lowery Elementary needs more measurement equipment to enable our students to complete hands-on science lab activities on a weekly basis.
All of our 1,000 elementary students will use these items; we have a room that the teachers are able to share and borrow from. It is proved that students learn better by doing the experiments then by watching the experiments. We just need enough equipment for table groups to achieve this.
Lowery Elementary will need beakers, tongs, funnels, and graduated cylinders of all sizes to accomplish our goals of completing our labs in small groups. One of the first labs our 180 fifth graders would like to do would be a mixtures and solutions lab. This would require the usage of all of these materials for measuring and storing of the solutions and mixtures the students have created.
Our students would be able to remember the experiment if they could experience it using the materials instead of watching the teacher do the lab.
