My students need fun, interactive, low tech, challenging games to play.
Most kids aren't used to playing actual games. It's almost become a lost art!

My Students
My kids go to school for an extra hour. Because of our extended day, we build in some down time for our kids. With this down time, we can play games, get in some reading, or enjoy a quick recess.
I want to create a collection of games for my school and classroom.
My students are the definition of high needs.
In our school, 25% of our students are homeless and 80% receive free/reduced priced lunch. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have grown up in the same traditionally African-American neighborhood as their grandparents and haven't ventured much further than our city limits. Others are first or second generation, Spanish speaking, immigrants to our country. With our wide cultural range, we spend much of our time learning about each other and the characters we read in our texts. There's so much to share and learn just among ourselves.
My Project
My students will use these games for many reasons. Students can play games as a reward for finishing work, play inside during rainy days, and during team building.
Bananagrams requires fast spelling, critical thinking, and builds team competitiveness among my students. I can't wait to join in and show the kids the games from my childhood.
My project will give students an opportunity to be playful with higher level thinking in disguise.
I love joining in with the kids and having some fun and this will give us a perfect chance to team build and bond!
