Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many students enter the eighth grade with second grade reading levels. I need to have them read as much as possible as quickly as possible. That is why high-interest books are necessary. These materials will greatly benefit these students, giving them the opportunity to accelerate.
My students attend junior high school in an economically impoverished neighborhood.
I mostly teach 8th grade but also impact 7th grade as well. I have 100 students per year, and these materials will help students for years to come. Every year I face the same challenge: helping low-level readers read at higher levels.
My Project
Students will become avid readers as they accelerate through this reading program, but the initial resources are necessary to get them going. I lack many high-interest books to get them started. If students can overcome low reading levels, then they can enter high school and be successful. I believe these materials will help stop students from dropping out.
This project will benefit many children at my school, not only this year, but in years to come.
This will enable low readers to reach their potentials. These books will make students ready for high school and ultimately college.
