Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
After 21 years as a teacher, I am excited to be teaching kindergarten....for the first time ever! I absolutely adore my students and am so happy to be their teacher. More than half of my students are second language learners and I'm thrilled to work with such a diverse and amazing group of children. I look forward to supporting my students' needs through my continued own growth and dedication to meeting the individual needs of my students.
My kindergartners are creative, inquisitive, happy, and so excited to learn!
I am continually looking to find ways for my students to express themselves and be true to who they are throughout the day. I also strive to honor the whole child in my daily practices as an educator and meet all their needs, from artistic and academic, to physical and social-emotional. I believe that it is imperative that we educate the whole child.
My Project
Along with a love of learning, it is equally important that my kindergartners learn to love themselves and others. What better way to do this than through storytelling?
Every afternoon we participate in Kindness Club where we practice kindness and learn to love and accept ourselves and others.
In addition to our Restorative Circles, Calm Classroom and social emotional curriculum, I would love to add SEL literature component. My students are so engaged when being read to, reading with their friends or by themselves. I know that adding a literature component would only contribute to meaningful conversations and learning about themselves and others.
