Loving Library Learning!

Help me give my students a virtual story time using a Google chrome book. The technology I am using now is definitely not up to a virtual classroom which has become the norm during the pandemic.

My Students

This is a challenging time in education. I never dreamed as I waved to the children going on home, that it would be our last day in the school building for this school year. Yet, our learning is continues.

Virtual story hour provides a sense of community for my students during the face of these uncertain and unprecedented times.

My students and I live in a COVID-19 hot spot city. Students are now dealing with feelings of anxiety and sadness as they miss story time, maker-space, bringing home a favorite book- all of our library routines, as well as their friends and teachers.

My Project

Replacing my current laptop with a new chrome book will allow me to do virtual read aloud without technology interruptions. My outdated home technology shuts down and is very slow to load. I am unable to load programs to edit video. Holding a picture book up to the camera, asking a question and waiting for a response. Interacting with the video would raise the level of interaction and enthusiasm of my students. I would love to make story time videos that my students could access any time.

A regular virtual story time with my students will give my students the feeling that everything is okay, even though their lives have changed drastically.

I can not wait to create video story times that bring magic back into their lives. I can hear my students clapping and reading along with me. It’s important for children to have an outlet during the pandemic. I want to provide a way for children to learn and enhance their literacy skills, even though our school library is closed.
