My Students
We are 18 eager and ready to learn 5 and 6 year old boys and girls. We come from all types of family backgrounds and live in a quiet community. The majority of us are from middle to low income households and have hard working parents at home! We are so excited to be big kids in a big school, some of us for the very first time. About half of us were in preschool prior to kindergarten. We can't wait to see what kindergarten has in store for us this year!
My Project
Each day in class we practice sorting letters, building words, and breaking words apart. We do this whole group, with only one set of letters the students take turns. Now imagine instead of watching 17 and doing it once, each student gets to practice each and every time themselves at their seats! Instead of being an observer most of the time, they get to be an active participant with each and every letter and word we practice with. The students will practice sorting letters (holes, no holes; curved lines, straight lines, both; tall, small), they will take words and break them into parts, they will build words, and practice word families. Actually touching the pieces with each and every practice!!
