Loving Learning With Technology

My students need 4 Chromebooks with management licenses to give them a variety of learning opportunities.

My Students

Our class is packed with enthusiastic students who are eager to learn and grow. Each has their own story of strengths and challenges, but they all desire the opportunity to gain the best learning that can be provided. Each school day we gather to find new ways to engage in learning, and I have the opportunity of seeing them as they get a little closer to accomplishing their various dreams.

I see technology as a way to increase their opportunities in the classroom, opening their eyes to a whole new world of experiences, ideas and skills.

We are lucky to live in a time where technology can help us reach new heights in education, and my students are excited to take advantage of those opportunities! Also, in addition to the students in our class using this technology, there are also four other classes that will have access to the Chromebooks!

My Project

The biggest project that I want to use the Chomebooks for is to start teaching language and grammar as a tool for better writing, instead of isolated lessons. Students will have the opportunity throughout the year to apply our lessons to writing and publishing their own books, both fiction and nonfiction, on a program called StoryBird.

The opportunities are endless, and because the Chromebooks will be shared with the other classes and will continue to be used in future years, the impact of this technology will go far.

In addition to publishing stories, the Chromebooks will be also be utilized in many other ways. Students will increase automaticity of math facts through Reflex Math and will practice the skills we are learning through interactive math activities. Persuasive writing will be enhanced though the immediate and specific feedback on Utah Compose. Reading fluency and comprehension skills will be practiced on Reading Plus. Social studies will come to life with virtual fieldtrips. Science will gain new depth as the students use the computers to research Utah habitats and animals. If awarded this grant, it will allow my student to the opportunity to increase learning and engagement, and will help them be better prepared for the future.
