My Students
My students are energetic and lively, challenged and challenging, and full of potential. I have 23 students in my class from a variety of backgrounds and with a large range of ability and motivation levels. Our school is in a hard-working, yet high poverty area in West Virginia. Most of my students are very active in sports and other school activities, but several of them have very few experiences outside of school. They need a place to belong and need to build a sense of ownership. We work hard to build a family atmosphere where everyone feels safe, secure, and valued.
My students are eager to learn and happy to participate, especially when I can create an excitement about what we are doing.
They are so creative and love hands-on learning. They enjoy engaging activities and love being helpers. Most of my students show a great deal of appreciation for the opportunities and materials they receive at school.
My Project
With the LEGO STEAM Park and Tech Machines Set for Problem Solving and Fine Motor Skills by LEGO Education DUPLO, my students will become excited about designing and building a park. Using this set will spark their creativity and help them develop their problem solving skills as they work through the engineering process to develop a functioning park. The machines set will teach my students about machines while helping them develop a deeper understanding for the value and importance of machines. In addition to the STEAM concepts they will be using, they will also develop their fine motor skills and learn to persevere as they stick to their projects until they are complete. They will also build valuable problem solving skills as they design and build.
