My first grade class is made up of some truly sensational characters! I have 24 goofy, loving, intelligent, hardworking kiddos in my classroom. I also have a very worn and stained old area rug in my classroom. Not only is it a bit of an eyesore, it makes me uncomfortable to allow them to sit and play, or listen to me read, or whatever else on it, not knowing exactly what is being harbored in the secret recesses of the woven yarn.
I want a safe space for them to play, listen, and learn, one that I know will last for many years of first grade classes.
Fulfilling my project for a Ruggable machine-washable rug will serve this purpose! We will be able to utilize this rug this year, but it will remain in the classroom for years to come, being properly cared for and remaining a constant safe place for many first graders to learn and play.
