Love Yourself Be Drug Free Project

My students need 15 books to encourage positive behavior in the classroom, learn about bats and better understand why we participate in Red Ribbon Week.

My Students

"No fair!" "I'm not your friend" and "I'm sorry" are all sayings I hear throughout the school year. As a teacher it's my responsibility to take these sayings and turn them into life lessons. Red Ribbon Week is the perfect opportunity to positively impact my students.

I work at a small, public one room school in a rural community.

Our class population is a total of 9 students in grades first through fifth. They are all hard working students inside and outside of the classroom. Before students come to class they usually can be found out on their ranch helping their parents. After school many of our students have a sports activity to do after working hard all day in the classroom. Although our school is in a rural area we try to make their schooling experience. One of those experiences is recognizing and participating in Red Ribbon Week. This week empowers students to continue to say no to drugs/bullying now and in the future.

My Project

In the classroom I want to use these picture books to start our Red Ribbon Week. I also want to give them the opportunity to connect with these books and use them as a resource in their writing. We will be writing about how we can say no and the alternatives to doing drugs. They will learn the importance of saying no to drugs and how to create a positive classroom environment. They will also use the bat books to learn more about the animal.

October is a very busy month, Red Ribbon Week, learning about bats and Halloween.

It's never too early to teach children the importance of saying "NO" to drugs. Through your donation I will be able to give my students the strength and encouragement needed to say no to drugs and bullying. This will give my students the confidence to stand up to others and know that they are making a positive choice.
