My Project

Reading is a foundational skill critical to academic success and lifelong learning. I aim to enhance our literacy program by incorporating novel studies into our curriculum. Novel studies allow students to explore themes, character development, and cultural contexts, enhancing their critical thinking and empathy. Analyzing novels also helps students improve their own writing. They can learn how authors structure their plots, develop characters, and build settings, which can be applied to their own creative and academic writing.

Reading novels regularly improves students' reading fluency and comprehension.

As they work through a full text, they learn to connect ideas, follow complex plots, and understand vocabulary in context. Students will also have opportunities for group discussions where they can debate ideas, share opinions, and consider alternative viewpoints. This collaborative learning fosters communication skills and teaches students to respect differing opinions while articulating their own thoughts.

Our current resources are limited, restricting our ability to provide a diverse range of novels that reflect the backgrounds and interests of our students. I am hoping to provide students with the resources they need to develop critical literacy skills and foster a lifelong love for reading.
