Love of Reading

Help me give my students the continued love of reading by having big books in the classroom for independent and shared reading. Big books are easier for students to hold, words are larger and easier to see.

My Students

At AES, we foster a community of students with strong character and high self-esteem who display critical-thinking skills that will enable them to become life-long learners. Our staff members and parents work together to educate more than 600 children in grades preK-5th. Our school is considered a Title I school with 100% of our students receiving free and reduced-rate lunch.

My classroom consists of 15 amazing and imaginative students.

Each student is unique and will bring their own energy and inquisitiveness to the classroom. We are a learn-through-play class that includes pencil/crayon/marker-to-paper activities. Parents have also requested that homework/home activities be sent home.

We are requesting big books for our classroom. Students are gaining a love for reading. Big books help with letter identification, and sight word recognition because the words are bigger and easier for students to understand. Big books also help with shared reading, small and large group reading.

My Project

Pre-K students are introduced to letters; and that that letters make words, words make sentences and sentences make stories. My students love listening to stories.

The students enjoy big books being read to them during large group and circle time.

My students enjoy following along as I read big books because they can see the words; big books have larger letters, it makes it easier for the students to see and follow along.

Big books also helps them identify the letters in the words that are being read to them. Big books are easier for students to hold and use during shared reading.
