Love of Reading Through Graphic Novels

Help me give my students access to amazing graphic novels, which our library currently lacks, including full sets of their most requested titles: Death Note and Scott Pilgrim.

My Students

I am the school librarian for a campus of three high schools in Brooklyn. For a decade, our campus had no library or librarian, and the space was left to fester. Now, I have been brought in to bring the space back to life once our renovation is done.

Our students are bright, hard-working, and in need of engaging material.

Because of several factors, we are currently devoid of books. What the students on my campus need are high-interest texts which create a love of reading. They are avid readers who are hungry for more than I can currently provide.

My Project

Because our library has been out of commission for a decade, we currently have no books. We're in the process of ordering them, but what little funds we have are being used to prioritize nonfiction at the moment, which means we have very little for the books our students desire: graphic novels.

Plenty of research has gone into the value of graphic novels as a valuable medium for students to build literacy, and they serve as excellent gateways into a lifelong love of reading.

My hope is to give students access to these resources, which isn't really possible this school year without your help.
