This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classes are full of wonderful, curious students. Many of them come from schools that did not support their creativity or that did not give them the necessary skills to be successful due to severe underfunding or oversized classes. Several of my children were left behind or fell through the cracks. This is the first real school experience for them, and while they are excited and appreciative, they are also struggling.
My students are eager to broaden their horizons and continue learning everything that they didn't have the chance to learn the past few years, but many of them have to share computers at home with siblings or do not have access to computers daily.
They are enthusiastic and hardworking, but they have fallen behind due to lack of resources at their past schools. My school is brand new, so we have accepted students from all areas around the school. This is a community where many of their parents do not speak or read English, so they need all the support we can give them at school.
My Project
My students will be able to complete intervention and enrichment activities in my classroom daily with the requested computers while other students in our classroom are completing independent station activities. They will all be able to take turns using the computers, primarily for reading and math. Many of the students vary greatly in their instructional levels and our online intervention program can provide instruction at their specific levels to reteach or enrich as needed. My students need specialized instruction. Many of them do not have Internet access at home or have to share the family computer with more than one sibling. We are optimistic that with proper support, intervention, and technology, our students will become more successful!
We will also use the computers to have students work in groups to complete social studies and science projects.
