I teach first-grade at a school with extremely diverse needs. My students come from a vast array of backgrounds, languages, and experiences. Many of them live in high poverty situations with little opportunity to explore age-appropriate activities outside of school. Every one of my kids shows excitement and passion when given tools and strategies that address their unique needs.
My goal is to advocate and search for experiences and opportunities that help them break down barriers of trauma and hardship through activities that challenge their brains, ignite their curiosities, and inspire a lifelong passion for learning.
I feel very fortunate that I get to be a voice for these amazing kids and help enrich their lives through meaningful experiences that meet each of their individual needs.
My Project
From books to hands on literacy activities, these materials will help my first graders fall in love with reading and writing.
My project request asks for multi cultural books that show diverse characters.
Working in a school where almost 20 languages are spoken, it's important to have books where students see themselves and can relate to stories.
I am also asking for hands on literacy materials to support my students in learning how to read and write in engaging ways. I believe that finding books and activities that engage students in meaningful ways will help them fall in love with literacy.
