Love for Literacy: Guided Reading for K/1 Learners

My Students

Our classroom community is made up of a diverse group of kindergarten and first grade students who vary in ethnicity, home language, socioeconomic status, and learning style.

I am committed to creating an equitable learning environment in which all children can grow academically and socially.

In addition to our rigorous curriculum, we also support our students' learning through project-based learning. These projects help us demonstrate our learning in ways that are meaningful to us. Students are given the opportunity to direct their own learning and are empowered to express their understanding in their unique way.

My Project

Kindergarten and First Grade are years of amazing growth, especially in literacy development. It is amazing to see the progress students make from emergent readers to applying what they know about letters, sounds, concepts of print, and sight words to move into early reading and then transitional reading. This program is a guided reading system designed to support my teaching and students' learning to help grow them along this continuum.

My students need a comprehensive set of high quality, culturally relevant and engaging texts to support their literacy growth.

Students will encounter traditional tales, realistic fiction, fantasy, and informational text. Each lesson includes word study and phonics instruction that is connected to the text and allows for clear practice and application for transference of skills. The classroom set gives many students access to the same text, and supports small group instruction with complete sets of books.

Please help my students develop their love of learning and reading with these fresh books sets. We look forward to growing our reading brains!
