This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a wonderful group of middle school students from a low income area in the City of Chicago (Back of the Yards). Many of my students have not yet formed positive relationships with reading nor do they have a wide variety of books available to them to use or read. My students all have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and they are working hard on increasing their independent reading skills. Reading is still very challenging for all of my students and I would like to offer them access to high interest novels that are leveled at their differentiated reading levels.

I want to help encourage my students to build a more positive relationship with reading by having the ability to explore their interests in the books that are available in our class library.

If you are able to donate, I greatly appreciate it, and I know a couple of students, that will be very happy to have the ability to explore their interests in a way that they haven't been able to before.
