I am a special education teacher in a public school district working primarily with children with autism. The children in my room are all affected by autism in various ways. Some of my children require communication devices to augment their limited communication skills while other children may need a positive behavior support plan to help prevent and control aggressive behaviors.
Our challenge is trying to educate our faculty and parents of our district about autism. We feel that when people are educated about children with autism they become more compassionate to our children and therefore become more involved and less passive.
This book will take us on the journey of a mom dealing with her son's autism diagnosis and treatment. In this book we learn what it is like to be a parent of a child with autism. Staff education is a KEY component to a successful autistic support program. This book does a wonderful job in such a candid and honest way of describing the fights many of our parents face acquiring the supports they need for their children. This book would be an invaluable resource for many of my staff members. I would also like to provide copies to my parents in hopes that they may find just one thing in the book that may help them find their way too.
You will make it possible for the faculty and parents of our school district to become educated about autism spectrum disorders and various alternative approaches that seem promising. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER !! I would love to increase the knowledge base of my staff and allow them to experience a unique perspective that may provide invaluable insights into the world of autism.
