Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Dance and Physical Education students come from New York City and are kids who love to move and jam when it comes to learning different types of dances that I teach. They also love playing music which as a Latin percussionist myself, I am able to teach.
I've always told my students that Dance and Music tend to be related with one another because movement in any form can be expressed in a way where their body is like a musical instrument playing a beat or song.
Also, I love to emphasize how much Physical Literacy can be learned through movements in Dance during either a PE or Dance class.
With that in mind, my students love to dance and express themselves especially when it comes to Salsa dancing, which is a big part of their culture being in a school that is comprised of new immigrants of Spanish decent and a majority of English language learners.
My Project
The use of a proper wireless speaker that is reliable and loud is hard to come by when teaching in a Dance studio or Large Gym. What is even harder is to find something portable enough to move from one room to another that doesn't have to always rely on a power cord. This Bose speaker can hold a charge of 11 hours which is more than enough for a typical school day. I have usually used a small speaker to teach students Dance, but now that I will be teaching High School which has a huge gym, the space would require a louder wireless speaker that I can connect to my bluetooth headset when teaching Dance or Physical Education classes. This speaker can also connect to wireless microphones that students are able to use to speak so that they can hear each other.
Being that my new school is comprised of many new immigrants and English language learners, this would be a great tool for them to speak up loud and proud without shouting in the Gym or Dance studio.
