My Students

Every student has the ability to learn, if only given the opportunity. Help us share the love of music with all children!

I have a wonderful group of students in my strings class.

I teach 3rd through 5th grade Strings. Every year, however, I have students who tell me that they cannot participate because Mom and Dad do not have enough money. These are very respectful quiet kids. Every year, I work hard to find violins for these students to play. The pride the students show when they get to borrow their instrument and participate in Strings is overwhelming. Strings is a wonderful way to allow the students to express their creativity. My elementary students are energetic, hardworking and big dreamers, and I want to help them reach their goals.

My Project

I'm requesting a violin for my classroom. When I first started teaching at my school, there were no instruments for the students to use. The only way a student could play in strings was to buy an instrument or rent one from a music store which is extremely costly. For several years, I have worked hard to find instruments to put into the hands of the children. The year before I started, there were 15 students total in grades 3-5 who participated in Strings. Five years later, I had 67 students participating in Strings. This is because 40 of the 67 students borrow instruments from me. I sometimes have enough but often need to borrow from other schools. I want to make sure that every child has the opportunity to play in Strings if that is their desire. Through your generosity, we can make that happen! This instrument will be used for many years in my classroom, helping several different students.

I teach at a Title I school that is highly diverse.

I have several students who are homeless, making it impossible for them to rent an instrument. We are living in a society that places such high value on testing and it is very important to allow children to have a creative outlet so they can still be kids. Students can excel in Strings and take pride in doing something unique. It is my goal to provide instruments for all students. Please help me make my students' dreams come true.
