Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Look what I did! Look what I did!" I can't count how many times a school day I hear this in my classroom.
My days are a constant shower of excitement, motivation and pride from my lively group of predominantly Latino third graders.
We are a Title 1 school in the San Fernando Valley within the Los Angeles county with a close knit community full of students from various cultural backgrounds. As a Title 1 school, many of our students come from economically disadvantaged households and often cannot donate every year to a new classroom.
My classroom has a diverse mix of students, including our third grade English Learner cluster. My students and I love to learn, experiment, question (everything), and work together to create a fun and caring classroom environment.
My Project
Every new school year brings new adventures and challenges to overcome, for both the teacher and students. My classroom is in need of a revamped class library. This year, I have a new eager group of students, with a wide range of reading levels- and even wider range of interests.
My eclectic group of third graders need an equally eclectic class library!
All of my students love to read but sometimes have trouble finding a book they are interested in with the appropriate complexity. Adding new books chosen with my students' interests in mind will make independent reading time an exciting part of the school day. My English Learners will greatly benefit from the leveled readers I have requested, as well as all of the stories full of visual aids to guide comprehension. All of my students will benefit from the wide variety of nonfiction and fiction I will add to my library. Please help this enthusiastic group of third graders get their hands on books they will never want to put down!
