My Project
My students have learned to expect the unexpected, to keep an open mind when we learn about art in my classroom. We regularly introduce different artists, culturally inspired forms of art and let our creativity go from there! This project idea is no different as we plan to learn about the culture, history, symbolism, stories and art of the Australian Aboriginal. Throughout tens of thousands of years these people have had a true connection to their world, to nature - from creating their own paints from roots, minerals and crushed stones to care-taking for the upkeep of their rock art paintings and the passing along of their, "Dreamtime Stories" throughout the ages - they are a MUST study for any visual arts classroom.
Your help would be greatly appreciated as we plan to use the acrylic paints and paint brushes, palettes, paper, pencils and painting cups to create truly breathtaking and Aboriginal inspired Dot Paintings!
Every story has a beginning, and every page something to add - this is where my students story begins as they tell their own story through the stylized manner of Aboriginal art. They'll learn about repetition, color patterning, how to use, select and "read" sequences and the meaning behind certain symbols. Once this foundation has been built, they'll select a central focal image from a choice of Aboriginal animal figures, place in the center of their paper and create their Dot Paintings from there!
My hope is that this will ignite a love for this type of art and through the donations you make, you'll be able to be play an equally important part in their journey and development! So here's to YOU, THE STUDENTS and TO ART!!!
