My Students
Remember reading that first great book that made you realize how much you loved reading? Lord of the Flies was mine and I've seen it be my students'. The only problem is at my new school, we don't have the books.
Welcome to my classroom.
Here you will find anywhere between 10-34 students with special needs, students who speak English as a second language, and students who do not have the money to buy a book. You will find students who hate reading, who revolt when you ask them to open a book. But I know, that with this book, it will be different.
My Project
Students will enter the world of a group of boys stranded on an island, desperately trying to create their own society. Students will visualize this island by creating their own maps of the island. Students will learn about symbolism and how a piece of literature can represent the problems inherent in our society.
I hope that by providing my students with these books, they will develop a love for literature as they find themselves lost in the world of Ralph and Piggy.
I hope that by teaching this book in my classroom it will engage my students and allow them to further develop analytical and critical thinking skills to understand how books can be a reflection of society. I hope it will help them to become better writers and encourage them to use their imagination.
