Loose Parts for Great Starts

My Project

I recently attended a workshop on play and want to incorporate new ideas into our classroom. Play is vital in the learning of our youngest students!

Incorporating loose parts to our classroom will help expand and ignite new learning through play.

The loose parts, including the wooden pieces, gems, and foam parts of various shapes, will all be available during our slow start at the beginning of the day. As students arrive, they will be able to select what loose parts they would like to play with along with a mat to help guide their space. They can build various creations with the wood and foam pieces or can make beautiful patterns and designs with the gems on the mats. We can also add these pieces into other play areas including dramatic play and our block area for even more ways to play! They can pretend the gems are food or add the foam pieces onto blocks to make chimneys, people, windows, and more! The possibilities for what loose parts can do to enhance play are endless!
