My Students

An issue with music education today is that it is preparing students to appreciate yesterday's world of music. I'd like to prepare students to anticipate tomorrows advancements and become arts enthusiasts as they grow in the world. This initiative is one way to spark relevant arts appreciation.

Our student population is active, engaged and creative on the whole.

They are a different generation altogether from the one I grew up with. My classroom music curriculum is very hands-on and student-led. Occasionally, our students are skilled musicians who may come from musical homes, but crave music in a new or worldly context. Our student population is diverse and differentiation techniques are a daily practice in each and every grade. I want to create a space where high level thinking occurs and children can be discerning critics in the arts.

My Project

I am seeking a sophisticated, yet simple, looping pedal for students to use in classroom music to create multi-layer compositions. With this looper, students can have hands-on experience with cutting edge technology and become part of music production in the 21st century.

This project is important because it is innovative, educationally sound and exciting for students.

The musical concepts that can be taught through the technique of looping can't be overlooked. This initiative puts the focus on student participation in performance, no matter what skill level they may have. My hope is that this technique when used properly will pave new roads for peer connection in music-making.
