My Students

The students that I teach are between 10th and 12th grade. The students in my class have a clinical diagnosis of severe emotional disturbance. They are in a single classroom all day because they have a hard time interacting with other peers and adults.

I am an ED teacher, and they are the most inspirational students I know.

They all have hardships at home. Their lives are filled with poverty, drugs, gangs, and me, who thinks the world of them. I will have these students for the next one to three years, so they will benefit from these supplies for a long time. Our school is a career tech high school, and all of our students are being educated to be career and college ready.

Typically, my students are referred to as the "Bad Students," and that is the furthest from the truth. They just need someone on their side. In our class, we have created that space for our students. Now they feel comfortable with us, and we want to give them the same opportunity as their peers. We believe in them.

My Project

Cleveland Schools will be experiencing a whole new way to learn this school year for going remotely in order to keep our students safe at home. This is new territory for all of us due to the Corona virus. As we navigate the new learning environment we will need supplies to assist us.

I am asking for a web cam to serve as the instructional delivery system which will be used every day to reach my students during instruction as well as individual assistance.

I am also asking for a two sided dry erase board and markers which will be used in my new home classroom to demonstrate learning strategies and concepts being taught. The white board will allow my students to visualize concepts to gain a better understanding of what they are learning.

Once we are able to get back into the classroom, I will continue to use the white board for instruction. The web cam will continue to be used for those students who are either unable to be present in class as well as students who reach out for extra help beyond the classroom.

I believe these items will create an interactive remote learning experience and enhance the learning of my students.
