My Students

This is an extremely unique school year. My first-grade students have never experienced a normal school year, and this year will not be normal either. Due to Covid 19, most of these children were not able to attend a preschool or Head Start program. Some of my students don't recognize letters and numbers. This is critical background knowledge for first-grade students and we have some catching up to do!

More than half of my students are living in low-income households, and the same percentage are first-generation United States citizens.

They have watched how hard their parents work to provide them with a safe, comfortable home in a country that values freedom and imagination. As incredible as their young imaginations may be, sometimes hands-on materials and supplies are just as important as their minds for success in school.

My Project

Every morning, we start our day with "STEM Bins". These rotating daily projects provide my students with a chance to explore building, engineering, and problem solving, using a variety of materials that engage their science and math skills. It's a challenge for me to keep up with the calls, "Mrs. Ledford, come see what I have built!" I would like to document some of these creations.

A photo to take home on occasion to show their families some of their accomplishments would mean so much, both to my students and to their parents!

We were extremely fortunate to receive the printers in a previous project. This project will refresh our supply of photo paper and the cartridges for the printer. Will you help me provide this real "gift" to my families? A printed photo is so much more meaningful than an emailed photo.
