My students need a variety of math manipulatives, including magnetic pieces and overhead pieces, as well as games in order to teach difficult math skills, especially fractions and place value.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
If you have to share a pizza pie with 2 friends, how much of that pizza are you going to eat? It's a toughie-unless you know your fractions!
I teach 28 awesome third grade students from a variety of cultural backgrounds in an urban public school. The majority of my class receive free/reduced lunch. Many of my students are also English Language Learners. All of my students are eager to learn!
When teaching math, I often feel like I'm teaching a foreign language to all of my students. Nobody can learn math listening to a teacher's words alone. You need to see pictures, touch manipulatives, talk and work problems out with others. For example, when my students are trying to learn fractions, it is so important for them to make fractions of their own. When they can see a fraction of the whole in front of them, they understand why we write the fraction. Yet, for every problem, how can every student make the fraction from a whole?
My math class would benefit from different mathematic manipulatives that everyone will be able to use. My students will have a visual that they can see and touch with their fingertips in order to understand difficult math concepts. Math manipulatives with make math more than a foreign language. It will bring math to my students in a most authentic manner.
Your donation would bring new life to our math time. You will make it possible for all of my students to see, feel and create math so they may understand new concepts. Math can be such a lively subject that is truly used in every day life. You can make that possible for my students!
