Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom motto is hands on- minds on. I teach Kindergarten students at a title 1 school in the Bronx. These students come from a diverse range of backgrounds and nationalities. My classroom is filled with a diverse group of 5 and 6-year-old energetic, active and excited learners.
My goal is to provide students opportunities to learn about the real world as they gain knowledge in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Kindergarten is a wonderful time of exploration and activities. Stem surrounds us and that is why it’s so important for kids to be part of, to use and to understand STEM.
My Project
The majority of my students are new to STEM. So these innovative materials equip my students and I, with everything we need to succeed with STEM. They come with teacher tips and discussion questions to easily guide students along as they learn about STEM concepts. Materials are ready and easy to integrate into my classroom’s existing activity centers.
Each activity inspires learning through trial and error as students work toward solving challenges.
By engaging my students in STEM activities everyday, they will build confidence with tools; acquire vocabulary and determination to complete tasks. This is exactly what young learners need for success in grade school and beyond.
Looking closer to real life designs, buildings, vehicles, bridges, making structures with open-ended materials, learning about circuits, magnification and plus tons of hands-on manipulative, invite children to build, explore and engineer again and again.
STEM doesn’t have to be only for elementary students. Kindergarten kids are still interest in learning everything there is to know about the world. These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning as STEM materials give all students the chance to investigate an idea in a variety of settings. At this very young age, children can learn concepts from different disciplines in different contexts in a natural way.
Help me to encourage these future engineers, scientists, doctors, astronauts, or programmers to think creatively and critically throughout life.
