My Students
Help inspire young artists to create think and see!
My students are inspired!
we have been looking at famous artist self-portraits like Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Judith Leyster, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Andy Warhol they are so excited to create their own. They want to feel like they are a part of history, to create a portrait “like Frida Kahlo” and ask the question, who am I?
My Project
Elementary students love to draw themselves. Having the right tools helps students learn. Mirrors are tools artists use to see themselves. They help students observe details up close. Without a mirror, self-portraits become symbols filled only with imagination. These basic tools (ebony pencils, sharpeners, paper, and mirrors) will help my young artists see and recreate themselves with detail.
Creating self-portraits leads to self-reflection
How do I want people to see me?
How can I express my many different sides?
How can I reinvent myself for various purposes or times in my life?
How am I changing from day to day or year to year?
Who do I want to become?
Creating self-portraits will give my students confidence and help them become better artists.
