This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.
My students are active and enthusiastic.
They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.
Our school is in a high needs and poverty area in which most children are on free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch programs. My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be, and do, better for themselves and for others.
My Project
My students are very thoughtful and creative with their work. The materials I'm requesting are to help enhance their creativity and the reflection process that comes as we approach the end of the school year. The binding machine would allow my students to create classroom books with a collection of their work.
Students will not only be critical of the work that they place in their books, but they have to be thoughtful in how they are marketing their work.
Through the process of reflection, marketing, and owning their work students are learning life-long financial literacy skills. The binding machine, binding combs, binding covers will all add to the professional look of their work, while the neon paper will add to the marketing eye-grabbing component of “selling” their work. The trophy/stickers will work as a fun giveaway to further motivate students on marketing the most thoughtful collection of work accomplished.
