My Students
Have you ever wondered if "Horton Hears a Who" could be true? My students want to know the pieces that make up the big picture.
My students live in a rural area of Mississippi and attend a small Title I school.
They are very inquisitive and want to investigate the world around them. Extreme budget cuts do not allow us to get the materials needed to look beyond what the eye can see. To be able to delve deeply into topics introduced in Reading and Science, to explore Nature and the hidden worlds of Germs, we require more than our naked eye and hand held magnifying glasses.
My Project
The requested materials will open up a view of our world that my students have never experienced. Common things such as bugs, plants, rocks, and dirt can be amazingly different when broken down into micro bits. Once they form an understanding of the individual characteristics seen through the requested microscopes, the students can begin forming hypotheses on what an item is based on its parts. Synthesis and Analysis are two important learning tools which are greatly enhanced by using microscopes.
We also need a Discovery Scope Basic Kit, What's Living in Your Backyard?, and Hidden Worlds.
Your donations will extend my students' learning throughout all subjects and bring a new excitement to their lessons.
Hands-on learning makes a much deeper impact than seeing examples from a book. Traditionally, Science is an area that is reduced due to an emphasis on Reading, Language, and Math. With your help, my students will be able to investigate their interests and gain an increased love for Science.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
