This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teachers are constantly faced with the challenge of deciding what work samples to keep and which samples to send home for families to see how their child is progressing. Students can get so excited to take their work home and are disappointed when they find out the work has to stay at school.
My students are hard working, determined and curious.
My students are from a low socio-economic background and many are latch key kids even at the age of 5. My students take pride in their work and their learning, even if they don't want their friends to know it. Family is important to my students and their families do better when a visual is presented for what their child has been learning. My students and families are transient due to the jobs held and the housing market in Florida currently which causes my students to be taught at many different schools sometimes. My students are looking for a sense of stability.
My Project
Having these resources will allow for my students to share EVERY piece of work they do with their families. My students would be able to scan their work so that I have a copy for grades and then take the work home. This would allow my families to see all of the work their child does and will keep the parents better informed of both the child's progress and what we are learning about in class.
The hard drive would allow me a place to store all of the students work digitally which would take the place of the paper portfolios. Without paper portfolios, I have more room in the classroom and more time to plan meaningful lessons and store manipulatives that will allow the students more opportunities for success with concepts.
Lastly, the SD card will allow us to capture learning moments throughout the year. We would be able to print and share or send the pictures to families or to put around the room to remind students of the learning we have done.
These materials will help make my students work more meaningful since it will be seen by people they care about most.
Their families will be able to track the progress of their child's learning and stay informed about what their child is learning. I look forward to showing my students how to use this technology and to seeing their faces when my answer to "Can I take this home?" is always yes!
