My Students

My students range in age from four to twelve and attend an urban PK-8 elementary school. When school is in session, students in our school visit the library once a week and they love to check out books. My students love learning new things and sharing what they have learned with others. This is why they need iPads! During our Remote Learning, we have started to use the SeeSaw app to document our learning and have really focused on having students read ebooks at their devices at home. Having iPads in the library when we do go back to school will help the students continue to document their learning.

Many of those students have come to the US in the last couple of years from places such as Syria, Nigeria, and Nepal.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds with many different levels of exposure to computers. My school is one of the most diverse schools in our city. My students are amazing!

My Project

My students are curious and thoughtful learners. I can't wait to show them the wealth of information that they can access using tablets. Many of my students have access to their parents phones. We will be able to use on-line databases and the encyclopedia which are provided by my district, but we need the devices. Students will also be able to use our library catalog to find out what books are in their school library. Having a current iPad to use during the Remote Learning time will allow me to show students how to access the resources at home. I will be able to use the iPad to also create instructional videos for my students that I can post on our library website.

These iPads will allow the students to take advantage of sites, ebooks, and share their learning with their families in their digital portfolios.

We have many e-books in various languages in our school and district collections, but my students need to be explicitly shown how to use these technologies so they can replicate the experience at home. My district has added many additional ebooks to our virtual library during our remote learning and I would love to be able to show students how to use them if I had new iPads.

As I am a veteran teacher, I have many other technologies that I would like to share with my students once we get back to school. These tools such as Dash/Dot Robots, Ozobots, and Osmos need iPads to run. We already have these robots and other items, but they are useless without iPads. These devices and iPads will be great used by many students.
