My Students

My upper elementary school students are of great diversity. The majority come from a low income, urban area with a large percentage of special needs students. Each year, 90% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches. My students have so much going on in their lives that I don't want the ability to purchase the basic school supplies to be an additional hurdle for them.

Although the 2020-2021 school year will begin remotely, some students will still be in need of basic supplies to use at home.

Additionally, I would love to offer a positive environment for my students to feel successful in learning when we do return to a hybrid schedule, hopefully on November 1, 2020.

Lastly, my students are bright, funny, social, and energetic children! My goal is to continue to instill a love of lifelong learning in them despite these trying times.

My Project

As we prepare for remote or hybrid learning, I want my students to be prepared. By planning ahead, I can be sure that my students will have a safe return by being able to keep all of their essentials in one place, a cinch sack.

My goal is to create a supply filled cinch sack that can be kept at school.

Cinch sacks can easily be strapped across the back of any chair and is easily transportable when travelling. Having their own cinch sack that contains colored pencils used to enhance writing, highlighters to highlight areas of strengths, as well as key concepts in reading materials, and a set of earbuds and cases will help keep each student's belongings from spreading germs in the classroom. No sharing will be allowed.

These are some of the basic supplies that we run out of during the course of the year and they would help my class tremendously while adjusting to a hybrid model of learning.
