This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic pre-kindergarteners who have mild to severe disabilities including autism and speech delays. They are a bundle of joy and they come to school every day ready to listen and learn. The more I can make their learning engaging, the more successful they will be.

My little students are all Title 1 students with special needs including autism.

They receive free breakfast and lunch. I also have students who are homeless. A rich environment is a must for a pre-kindergarten classroom! It is in pre-kindergarten where children begin their journey into mathematics, reading, and writing. They are eager to learn and express what they see and hear using words, gestures, and movements. These tools would greatly impact their learning and prepare them with a solid foundation with a love of learning. The tools that I am requesting should be available to all students, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

My Project

I love bringing creative, engaging technologies in my classroom! Educational technology is a passion of mine, and the current and upcoming digital technology in education allows me to provide my students with experiences that will expose them to the joy of learning. The document camera will be used when I am introducing new material and when I am reading stories. I will be teaching them to build language, develop comprehension skills, and they will be able to see the lessons on the big whiteboard. I will not have to place my shorter students in the front and the taller students in the back. No matter where a student sits, they will be able to see clearly. I will also be able to use the document camera to teach letters and sounds, play memory games and to teach counting. The possibilities are endless. Our current dinosaur radio skips or refuses to play our CD’s at times. The antenna is broken and sharp which I have covered with tape. It badly needs to be replaced. My classroom also would benefit from a portable Bluetooth speaker. It would make our outdoor centers more fun. Can you imagine riding your tricycle to the beat of music or running and jumping to music? I want to fully engage my students who have specialized learning needs by using these technologies them to their fullest potential.These items will help my students who are experiencing homelessness because many of my homeless students move from home to home. One temporary place to another. When they come to school, this is a constant state and their well being is soothe with music. The education they are receiving will hopefully end the cycle of homelessness in their family. I also invite the parents into the our class. I will use the document camera to show them ways to work with their children and teach them tangible ways to apply what they learned in the my class to their daily lives that can possibly give them hope and encouragement also.
