Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are under privileged first graders. They come to school eager to grow academically and socially. We are currently in a rented building due to the growing community. The district is 85% minority with 100% of students receive free meals.

Majority of the students are English Language Learners and they come to me with smiles, joy and enthusiasm for learning.

My goal is to maintain their desire for learning and cultivate the positive environment needed to flourish.

My Project

The Teach Store Chart Stand that I am requesting for my students already has a perfect location and will be extremely functional for interactive whole group instruction. In my district the K-2 teachers use an award winning phonics program called Letterland. "Letterland was created to teach phonics using a story-based approach. The story logic engages students leading to long term retention of concepts. What's more, Letterland is wonderfully multi-sensory. It activates every learning channel through music, actions, alliteration, movement, song, art, games and role-play." Moreover, Letterland has beautiful picture code cards.The students love using them to build and decode words.

The Teach Store Chart Stand that I am requesting would help display the letterland picture code cards and students will be able to have easy access to them.

During whole group instruction we have a time for Live Reading and Live Spelling. Live reading is where the teacher says the sound and the students decode words. Live Spelling the teacher will say the word and the students will spell it. The Teach Store Chart Stand will allow students to have ease of access the picture code cards during both live reading and live spelling.
